15 Years with Linux!!

When I started my migration to Linux I never thought I would be writing about it 15 years later.

The world has changed a lot.  Right now, A.I. tools have become widespread, as the translation and the image that illustrates this post exemplify it.

In my office, they keep Windows stations (with tools to spy on you) but gave my brother and I the chance to use Linux.  Guess what we chose!  😜

15 years using Linux! At home, I am still using an old 32 bit desktop and it is up to the challenge.  I've created professional video ads on that old timer thanks to the penguin!

Well, this time with Tux has been very productive.  I've learned a lot, although I still don't know my way around the command terminal, hehe.

A Decade with Linux!

I had totally forgotten about it, but Mechatotoro reminded me that today this blog is celebrating its 10th. anniversary!

The anniversary image that Mechatotoro sent me!

Wow!  A decade since I migrated to Linux and Free Software!

It has been 10 years of happy computing and lots of amazing discoveries.

This has been a decade in which I learned a lot; much more that I could have ever imagined.

No, I still don't know how to use the terminal as an expert.  My knowledge of its magic is extremely basic...

So, what did I learn?

I think that the most valuable lesson I learned in these 10 years using Linux and Free Software is freedom.  I no longer believe in the "this is how computers work" idea that kept me captive for so many years before my migration.

I feel really thankful for that!

Migration Status: 8 Years and Counting!

Linuxmigrante is celebrating its 8th. anniversary today!

Wow!  That means 8 years have passed since I migrated to GNU/Linux and I haven't regretted my adoption of Free Software.

I've seen lots of changes I thought I'd never see.  I still see rejection, biases and recalcitrance from those who cling to the past and refuse to recognize that the arguments they used to resort to for attacking Linux are exactly what they experience with their OS now.

I've seen distros be born and die.  I've learned lots of interesting tricks and I've been able to experiment with tools I never thought I'd use.

What about the command line?  I still don't know how to use it beyond a few commands (very few!)

Anyway, thanks to the ones who take some of their time to visit this blog. I really hope that some of its content may have been useful to you as it was to me.

6 Years Already?

Time flies!  It's been 6 years blogging about my experiences with Linux!

I've learned a lot, although I still haven't mastered the CLI (and probably never will).

I've also seen some of my favorite distros disappear, but they have been replaced by others equally great or even greater.

I've seen some other successful migrants among many who don't stay beside the penguin.

I've seen as well how Linux gets better and better, and how that other OS has started to copy it.

However, the greatest things I've experienced since I came to Linux Land are:

Freedom and peace of mind!  While many are utterly worried and Wannacry, I am happy with my systems.  :D

CHEERS!!!

December Ends...

The last month of 2014 is reaching its end, and with that, I can't help listing some of the events that came along with this year to my micro cosmos:

1.  The people at my workplace have realized (finally) that the university is indeed migrating to free software.  I'll stick with .odf and now they won't have any excuse against it.

2.  MEPIS has fell out of DW's top 100 list of Linux distros and is slowly going the way of the dodo, but MX is quickly rising.

3.  I haven't been able to write much here, but that pretty much means that, unlike some of my coworkers, I haven't had viruses havoc or malware slowing down my productivity.  Actually, my computers have been working without problems: I even managed to publish a book (yes, I used Libre Office to type it) and I am waiting to see how people will take it.

4.  My participation with Mechatotoro at the International Conference held by our school went pretty well, even if we experimented again with some technologies for our presentations.  Of course, Windows was not part of them.

What will 2015 bring?

I've no idea.

Quite a Surprise!

We had a School Assembly today.  Usually, the speakers use a netbook or laptop loaded with Windows 7 (which has caused already several embarrassments and delays) and use MS Office PowerPoint during their presentations.

However, today was a bit different.  When the speaker double clicked his document to open it, I saw an old friend:

That was a delight!  The computer used LibreOffice's Impress to do the job!

Little by little, our university's migration to Free Software is advancing.
